Tensions Escalate As Police Clear Protesters Near Dakota Access Pipeline http://n.pr/2eDDj3Q

No idea what to make of this anymore. For one thing, the protests aren’t as peaceful as I’d thought. And the almost-militarized law enforcement response gives me fears of ‘massacre waiting to happen.’

On the one hand, i get every level of both Tribal and the other local communities’ concerns and fears. Deepest among them: any promises of how “”reat for everyone” this pipeline will be are so much ‘smoke and mirrors’. That they will see no benefit, short-, medium-, or long-term . That after this pipeline is built, if something goes wrong, their water supply is ruined, they’ll get no help trying to recover, and any responsible parties will have shielded themselves completely from any accountability.

On the other hand, Tribal and non-tribal economic growth needs the business this’ll generate.

As the article points out, pipelines are safer that rail car transport.
