Marvel HeroClix Avengers/Defenders War- Daredevil | HeroClix:

Marvel HeroClix “Wish-List”: The Ani-Men! (v1.1)

Marvel Comics’ “The Ani-Men”! Frog-Man! (Not the same guy we just got in the recent SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN set.) Ape-Man! Cat-Man! Bird-Man! Dragonfly!

Bottomline: Usually a bunch of thugs. Otherwise normal humans, with varying degrees of skills and physical ‘power’ (agility, strength, endurance, resilience, etc.), wearing animal-themed ‘super-suits’ that provide various and limited enhancements. “power-levels” tend to vary by the writer’s needs for the story. I actually hope that, if they ever get made, WizKids Game Design can make them credible threats to our superheroes, without ‘overdoing it.”

TWIST for CLIX: Might be cool to make these characters ‘dual purpose’, like DC HeroClix 2012 “Storyline Organized Play” BATMAN: NO MAN’S LAND piece, NML007 The Penguin, which could be either a character, or a “Resource”.

It’d be cool to have “Ani-Men” super-suits that other characters could pick up and use, even after the character is KO’d, maybe…

Marvel HeroClix Wish-List: Bullet (v1.1)

Well, over on, they have an “UnCLixed” article up about Marvel supervillain Nuke. I had completely forgotten about him. After getting rid of most of my comics (and with what’s left in storage), can’t really say if I still have his 1st appearance. I kinda kicked myself, what with being a huge Captain America fan, and his involvement in a couple of NUKE-stories. I should have cobbled together my own “HeroClix Wish-List” post on Nuke a long time ago.

No problem. Daredevil has plenty of obscure ‘rogues’. From the same 1980’s era when I was still picking up DD’s mag, comes: BULLET. (Sometimes, “Bullit”; I swear I’ve read it that way before, but maybe I’m conflating it somehow with the old Steve McQueen movie?.)

Anyway, power-level, he’s in the Spider-Man or Luke “Power Man” Cage range. Kinda fills the ‘street-level brute’ gap left when Marvel started making goons like Rhino more powerful and able to go toe-to-toe with the likes of the Hulk. Anyway, the Write-Ups.Org entry for him is great. Check it out.

Bullet could have one of those “move along a direct path” kind of twits on Charge or Hypersonic Speed. Traited Toughness. Might want to keep his damage no higher than 2, but make plenty of use of Super Strength and Close Combat Expert.

EDIT: Just realized how often i used the words “Bullet” and “Nuke” in this post, and hope DHS or NSA doesn’t wig-out over one nerdy superhero/supervillain blogpost….

Marvel HeroClix Wish-List: Mandrill & Nekra! (v1.1)

Although WizKids has been including more and more previously-UnClixed characters in recent sets [Thank You, WizKids, for all of the Serpent Society members that showed up in the Marvel HeroClix SUPERIOR FOES OF SPIDER-MAN set, released last week], can’t help but hope for more.

Must be the 2016 Presidential election cycle, but I’ve been thinking lately of obscure, as-yet-UnClixed “mind-controlling” characters. Mesmero, Corruptor, and now,… The Mandrill! And you can’t really talk about Mandrill without talking about his one-time “High Priestess”, Nekra! (Well, you can, but, hey, “two birds, one stone” kinda thing.)

MANDRILL: Mutant human. Physically, the “The Beast” (Dr. Hank McCoy from the X-Men) in terms of strength (just over the “superhuman” threshold, able to lift/press 1 ton), dexterity, and agility, but with brown fur and a face like a Mandrill ape. Mentally, he has some “genius”, mostly in the organizational planning and tactics side. Bona-fide superhuman power: pheromones. Pheromones powerful enough to put most any human woman under his control.

NEKRA: Mutant human. “Vampiric” appearance, with chalky white skin, jet black hair, fangs, talons like fingernails and toenails. Two power sets: (1) Emotional/adrenaline based physical powers; when angered/enraged, she kinda “Hulks-Out”. She physically remains the same size and shape, but becomes more resistant to physical injury (has survived explosions of up to “100 pounds of TNT”), her physical strength hits the “Spider-Man range” (lift/press between 10 and 15 tons), and the sharp fangs and nails just get tough enough to start going through light armor.  (2) Under the Black Talon, she’s learned the Marvel Narrative Universe’s version of “Voodoo”, raising her own kind of “high-quality” zombie minions from time to time. Sometimes she’s costumed in barely-there ribbons of black, sometimes she’s wearing a kind of “Draculina” get-up, and still other times she’s in sheer fabrics and a lot “tribal/gypsy” jewelry, like she’s the High Priestess in the next Conan movie.

Both Mandrill and Nekra are very competent hand-to-hand fighters, mostly relying on natural abilities than formal training

Would love other see some special powers or Traits that enhance both of these characters when they are on the same team (the “optional Traits” that cost points would be appropriate).

Nekra could have some sort of “Enraged” tokens based mechanic. As well as a Bystander “Voodoo Zombie” token power, maybe of the “once per game/at the beginning of the game” variety.

Mandrill? His Mind Control only works on normal human women and sometimes superhuman women. Pretty limiting, but also potential for theme-related, role-playing game-like antics for HeroClix’ otherwise purely tactical game play. Otherwise, “acrobatic brawler”.

EDIT II: To be clear about their back stories: Mandrill was born to white parents, Nekra to African-American parents. Both sets of parents had been exposed to unspecified chemicals and radioactive materials, as the result of a workplace accident, an explosion at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. Both were eventually ostracized by parents and peers, and ran away, eventually falling into criminal activity.

Ret-Con: Daredevil (IC REV) (v3.2)

EDIT (2014-12-29): Originally posted 2010-12-09. Tweaking the language on an older RCT, adding a simple “collage”, and a light rework of the other content.

EDIT (2014-01-02): After some additional thought, modified the language of the RCT to specifically cover the Flight and Carry abilities, rather than focus the combat symbol.

Ret-Con IC Daredevil v5

Homemade Ret-Con Trait: “Billy Club Swingline” If this character is the only one on your force with this name and set symbol, it can use the following effects: When this character is given a move action, modify its speed value by +1 and it may use {Improved Movement}{Ignores Hindering Terrain}{Ignores Elevated Terrain}{Ignores Outdoor Blocking Terrain}. Modify its attack value by +1 when making close combat attacks. When this character succeeds at a ranged combat attack against a target opposing character of the same size or smaller, that character can’t use the Flight or Carry abilities until the beginning of this player’s next turn.

So, the original Daredevil Rookie, Experienced, and Veteran.  One of the “Whiskey-Tango-Foxtrot” reactions players seemed to have back then (2002) was “Why does Daredevil- – acrobatic superhero and skulker about the rooftops of Hell’s Kitchen — have to take the stairs??

Cribbed some language from the venerable “Swingline” Feat card. Did keep the speed modifier and changed the “Earthbinding” to “replacement ability symbol”, since Earthbound became much stronger (IMHO) when it became Earthbound/Neutralized (it doesn’t *just* affect the speed symbol; the “swingline-like” effect shouldn’t turn a giant into a standard character). Also, trying to add into all my older and current “Ret-Con Traits” the “unique to your force” (or, “Higlander Rule”) language, so these older characters don’t get the benefits of an RCT if the player is trying to run a bunch of copies of the REV (a “clone army” of a non-generic character).
