Yep, another one of those posts. “Wish-List.” In this case, a long shot. And I’ve pined away for this group before, in post long since deleted. Worth one more try.
It has been amazing to see the licenses that NECA has helped the new WizKids obtain, and how making every license 99% compatible with HeroClix from the out-set has helped HC in its entirety. Granted, I have no interest in getting into GEARS OF WAR, STREET FIGHTER, LORD OF THE RINGS, or HALO brands, but it holds out the possibility of other properties being made, if the all of these brands are popular (and generate profit).
So, I’m really hoping for Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. Sometimes, also known as G-Force. First time I became aware of them was in the 1980’s, a syndicated cartoon run on a local UHF TV station then called “Battle of the Planets”. According to Wikipedia and any number of other fan-wiki sites, first series was aired in 1972, spawning several sequels and re-interpretations.
I do not have cable or satellite TV, haven’t hunted down the DVD’s or episodes on-line. But, I don’t buy comics all that regularly anymore either. I’m still big into HeroClix. Mostly Marvel and DC. Driven by both nostalgia for what characters I know, an appreciation of the game itself, and wonder and fun at using characters I don’t know.
Gatchaman. Fits all three of those. Nostalgia for what I remember, a desire to see them in HeroClix form, and a sense of wonder and fun since my memory is incomplete for the version I watched as a kid and knowing there were/are some significant differences in all of the other versions.
I am not going to get into the property’s history or any of that. Please read the wiki. This is just a declaration from a fan to WizKids to say, “Hey! HEY! Got money over here! Wanna buy sumthin’!!”
WizKids seems to be getting into these smaller collection of sets, the “gravity feed” or “microsets” or “counter-top display” sets (or whatever they’re calling them this week).
Could be cool to not only get a version of each, but two or three versions of each, plus an Alter Ego “civilian identity”. A lot of vets to the game pan the AE mechanics. I still think it’s fun, just going to see more refinement. And the twist that WEB OF SPIDER-MAN introduced and that INCREDIBLE HULK is refining — one AE having multiple options to change into — could be used to great effect here. Play with the roles of each character, with different versions of the same character showing varying strength levels in close combat, ranged combat, or support/utility roles.
And that’s just the core team itself. There’s still the villains. But, I’m going to leave it there, and scoop up a bunch of artwork from around the net. A little eye-candy to help spark the imagination, the potential.
