Being a Marvel Zombie, sci-fi/superhero fan, and in-general blue-collar guy who likes to continue educating himself on Civilization and the Venn-lime interactions of the spheres of STEM, HAL, & EMC that propel it, I really enjoyed geeking-out to that article. Jist stumbled across it this morning. Excellent, thought-provoking, fun stuff.

I’m not even that big a fan of Thor.

As with BLACK PANTHER, continues to make me ponder Humanity, Civil, Evolution and Nature, and how being Good can be a huge challenge, individually, and in a group. And trying to aspire to Be Good and Do Good after you or your “group” may have done a lot of Bad/Evil thing to get to the “Top”…?

“Tribes.” “Nations.” “Empires.” Generational, evolutionary advancement through cycles of war and subjagation? *shudder* “Fun” to reflect on, in a terrifying way.

EDIT: Wow, never heard of “TOR” but iy is definitely cool site —

Marvel HeroClix Wish-List: Crusader (v1.1)

Marvel Comics character, the Crusader. Well, one of the characters that’s used that name. And one of the few that I know of to really play into “religious zealot” stereotypes. It’s kinda surprising we don’t see that more often, given Real World events, and given what a mish-mash of science fiction, sword-&-sorcery/mythic fantasy, wannabe-noir crime drama, and supernatural horror superhero genre comics are made of.

At any rate, HeroClix: Writers may not really handle Crusader in any thought-provoking fashion in the comics, but in HeroClix this antagonist could be a specialized weapon against characters with certain keywords. The key character-oriented hook here is trying to represent the character’s “strength of faith” aspect; he’s essentially only as powerful as his confidence is, his faith in his mission is. And depending on how strong that is, he can go toe-to-toe with the Mighty Thor or get purse-slapped into unconsciousness by Peter Parker’s Aunt May.

Most likely design will probably be a strong number of opening clicks, followed by a radical and sudden drop in stats (“wrestling with his faith” thing) maybe including Regeneration, or some sort of “Rally” clicks, maybe with a last-click “stop click” special power.

OR. Or, maybe, a “normal” 6 clicks of life, very average stat values across the board, and a “at beginning of your turn, roll one d6 that can’t be rerolled” Trait where the result ties in to a selection of powers for Speed, Attack, Defense, and Damage and specific stat modifiers? Rolling a (1) or a (6) might produce the best synergies combo of powers and stats, any other roll might still be effective, just not as ” efficient” a mix?

Anyway, the Keywords he’d be best against may require a different Trait. Maybe not. “Versus” Keywords: Asgardian, Deity, Mystical, Monster. Maybe others.

EDIT (2016-05017): Corrected some spelling and grammar. That is all.

Wish-List: Mongoose (v2.0)

EDIT (12 NOV 2012): Re-work and re-post of an older post. Originally published 02 JUN 2010.

The Mongoose.  “Thor villain”, but with a “Spider-Man villain” power level.  I have no idea if he’s been used since his first appearance. He hasn’t been in any of the (very limited number of) trade paperback collections I pick up.  I ran across his Official Marvel Handbook entry (from the Update ’89 collected edition) last night.  He may be a minor and low-powered Thor-villain, but his power set puts his in the ‘range’ of a lot of Spider-Man’s rogues gallery.  He can lift/press about 10 tons (Spidey can lift between 10 and 15, I believe) and he’s a “super-speedster” type. Not any where near as fast as Marvel’s Quicksilver or Speed Demon, or DC’s The Flash.

So, I’d like to see a HeroClix version that’s mostly about Hypersonic Speed (with maybe a Movement value upper limit of 10) and powers that emphasize close-in combat.  Although possessing Super Strength, may want to make it so that he cannot use HSS while holding an object. (Using objects didn’t seem to be his biggest tactic.) May want a “repositioning” type Trait ability, where if he makes close combat attacks that don’t involve use of HSS (or Charge), he can be placed in another square adjacent to the same character as a free action. (Trying to represent him zipping around his target at super-speed.) He may qualify for Improved Movement of some sort. Blades/Claws/Fangs is obvious. Does he deserve anything more than Toughness, possibly combines with Super Senses or Combat Reflexes? Unsure. He’s dangerous, but kinda cocky; given his power-level, he’s got some brass balls, what with picking fights with Thor.
